CHELSEA HANDLER opened last night's MTV Video Music Awards with a bang. The comedienne, who took over from RUSSELL BRAND as host of the biggest night in pop, began her routine with a skit that included LINDAY LOHAN, before telling the crowd at the Nokia Theatre that she was "as high as a kite" after doing a prayer circle with SNOOP DOGG. The remark was part of Handler's opening monologue, which went down well with the packed auditorium.
After being lowered down to the stage in a LADY GAGA style entrance, the 35-year-old removed her eccentric glittery outfit to reveal a short black dress before commenting on the last time that a female had hosted the star-studded award show (in 1994), saying "JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE was in the Mickey Mouse Club pretending he wasn't having sex with BRITNEY SPEARS.
